Sam Mason spent his formative years as a drummer touring the world. But something was missing. So he packed his bags for London and studied film at Central Saint Martin’s where his student short landed him a gig with Gorillaz music video director Pete Candeland.
Back in New York, and under Pete’s wing, Sam quickly went through the ranks of an animation studio before going on to direct worldwide campaigns for Coke, Toyota, Mazda, Redbull, and Honda, and then to a stint as creative director for Passion Pictures.
Sam’s approach to filmmaking leans on a love for romantic imagery, painterly colors, and a unique ability to mix tradition and cinema with sorcery. His music video for Sofi Tukker’s grammy nominated “Drinkee” picked up a Vimeo Staff pick, and he’s an ADC Young Gun, a Cannes Lion nominee, and a fourth generation direct descendent of the philosopher William James.
